Memeday: Waiting With Walter

Yep, its that time again.  Almost the most wonderful time of year.  I’m posting this for my wife, who keeps me honest.  Without her I’d already have the lights up, the decoration boxes down from the attic, and Steve & Edye jamming “Sleigh Ride” on the stereo.

About JunkChuck

Native, Militant Westsylvanian (the first last best place), laborer, gardener, and literary hobbyist (if by literary you mean "hack"). I've had a bunch of different blogs, probably four, due to a recurring compulsion to start over. This incarnation owes to a desire to dredge up the best entries of the worst little book of hand-scrawled poems I could ever dream of writing, salvageable excerpts from fiction both in progress and long-abandoned. and a smattering of whatever the hell seems to fit at any particular moment. At first blush, I was here just to focus on old, terrible verse, but I reserve the right to include...anything. Maybe everything, certainly my love of pulp novels growing garlic, the Pittsburgh Steelers and howling at the moon--both figuratively and, on rare occasions, literally.

I don’t mind if you have your Christmas decorations at home set up in September, but I hate seeing them up in the store so early. When I was growing up in the US, decorations seemed to go up overnight after Thanksgiving. I loved that. I’m in Australia now and some shops hold back and others have had decorations up since October. I guess I wouldn’t mind if it wasn’t all about spending. But as an aside. I was in Europe in the lead-up to Christmas in 2000 and the community decorations seemed to appear in the two weeks prior to Christmas. I really loved that.

Christmas stuff was appearing in the stores before Halloween this year. Ugh.
