Old and New WordPress Editor Screenshots

Referencing my dislike for the “new wordpress experience” which I wrote about here.  I hate it, by the way.  What do you think?

  1. i’m semi-literate at best when it comes to techy things and i do prefer the old and just when i think i have the hang of it – change! Not happy.

    1. John, you can click on a link to use the old version. They added it very quickly as I assume there was quite a bit of backlash.

  2. I’m the type of person who doesn’t do well with change–especially when it comes to technology. I somehow still have the old editor, and I’m fine with that. I don’t know how long it’ll stay that way before WorPress gives me the new one…

  3. I told WordPress off on Twitter. It’s absolutely terrible. If you publish in text mode, nothing publishes. If you add tags and it’s not in visual editor, the tags don’t publish. If you post something, before, there was a link to create another new post right there. Not anymore. And every single time you do a new post it ends up in a new tab. Uggh. Horrible, horrible UX.

    1. Have you ever, in nearly 30 years, known me to hold back an opinion on anything? “Roll with it.” Pfft.

  5. I’m not a fan, but want to be careful not to dislike it just because it’s different. I like it that they give us the option to switch back. I wonder how long that will last. Last night I’d worked on something for an hour, and it wasn’t coming easy. I finally got it to the point that I was going to post it, but had been so engrossed in the work that I hadn’t saved it. Something flickered and it was gone. My own damn fault for not saving along the way, of course, but that sort of instability is really inexcusable, too. There’s no autosave, there’s no way to recover anything. I had to start over from scratch and the second version wasn’t as good (IMHO). Frustrating.

    1. Yes, I lost a post yesterday too–but it was my own damn fault. I had a lot of tabs and programs open and closed one I didn’t mean to close. Opps. Damn. One thing I like about the new wordpress is that I seem to be able to cut and paste Word docs directly, without stripping the formatting. I’m sure I’ll get used to the new one–I’m forcing myself to use it about half the time–but I get tired of having to learn an entirely new layout for a program that was serving me fine the way it was. I resent the time lost to educating myself, time that could be spend doing something more interesting and/or productive.
